Advanced Facilities
Access to some of the world’s most advanced R&D facilities.
New York is supporting innovation at scale with some of the world’s best research universities and the largest and most advanced open-access semiconductor research-and-development facility in North America, NY Creates’ Albany Nanotech Complex. The complex’s new High NA EUV Center represents a $10 billion public-private initiative and will feature the most innovative high NA EUV lithography technology ever produced—ASML’s TWINSCAN EXE:5200B—as the only U.S. location and one of only two global R&D sites to do so. New York is also the only state with two Ivy League institutions—Cornell and Columbia—and boasts access to advanced labs across 12 Tier 1 research institutions statewide.
Collaboration
An ecosystem ideal for collaboration.
New York is home to the only federally designated end-to-end semiconductor manufacturing Tech Hub. The NY SMART I-Corridor Tech Hub brings together industry, academia, and government to spur semiconductor innovation and growth. At the Albany NanoTech Complex, more than 2,750 scientists and engineers collaborate with over 200 industry and research partners. GO-SEMI, the industry’s dedicated partner in New York State government, is available to convene university, industry, and government partners to strengthen research collaboration and accelerate innovation.
STEM Talent
STEM is a New York state of mind.
New York leads the Northeast in the number of STEM graduates, including the third-most engineering graduates with degrees relevant to semiconductor technology. The State University of New York (SUNY) is the nation’s largest comprehensive public university system. The state also has 12 Tier 1 research institutions, including Ivy League universities Columbia and Cornell. Additionally, 98% of New Yorkers live within a half hour of a public community college, all of which offer free training for in-demand roles like technicians and operators. Together, these academic pipelines create a deep and growing semiconductor talent pool.
